The German School Nairobi is one of the top German Schools abroad, covering the German curriculum of education in the school with German as the language of instruction. The school gives a supportive and inclusive community environment, guiding children from Kindergarten to Abitur level. With a focus on personal development, global perspectives, and our core values, the main aim is to prepare global citizens for the current world and equip them to excel in society.

In Kindergarten, the day begins at 7:30 am and normally ends at 3:30 pm. Later drop-off or earlier pick-up is possible.
Lessons at the school begin daily at 7:45 am.
In the Primary School and Class 5, lessons end at 1:05 pm. In the Secondary School from Class 6 onwards, lessons usually end at 3:30 pm. Upper Secondary School has lessons on some days until 5:00 pm.
In the afternoons, co-curricular activities and additional programmes are offered for students in the Primary and Secondary School until 5:00 pm.
On Fridays, lessons end for the entire school at 1:05 pm.
A private sports programme is offered on Friday afternoons and Saturdays and is open to students from Kindergarten to Secondary School.

The German School Nairobi follows the German curriculum and is aligned with the educational standards of the German school system and the Federal State of Thuringia. The school is accredited by recognised institutions such as the ZfA, the Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule, the WDA, and the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK).
The school covers different age groups for each of their subsections. For Kindergarten, children may join play groups from as early as 18 months. Primary, which is from clas 1-4, starts from age 6 and secondary which is from clsses 5-12, starts from age 10.
Teaching is generally conducted in German. In the Secondary School, Geography is taught in English from Grade 8 onwards. From Grade 9, History is taught bilingually in German and English.
The students have extra German hours throughout the week to help them in their understanding during classwork and exam period. Additionally, there is personalized assistance for students in school to help support fluency in german Language, even after school hours.
English is taught as an additional language to students. Additionally, students start learning French as an added foreign language from Class 6.

Yes, we do offer scholarship opportunities.E ach year, Kenyan students can apply for our scholarship programme between late September and early to mid-October. The programme is open to children aged 9 to 10 years.. Successful applicants join Class 4 in January of the following year and take part in a nine-month intensive German language programme. This prepares them for entry into Secondary School (Class 5), which begins in August at the start of the new school year.

Students Graduate with the German International Abitur (Deutsches Internationales Abitur – DIA). This qualification is internationally recognized and gives graduates access to universities in Germany, Kenya and Europe, subject to their admission policies. For preparation, students are guided through a structured academic program that equips them wholesomely for the Abitur exam through the year.

All parents, who are members of the German School Community are expected to enroll into the Parent Portal to get information, communication and announcements concerning the different classes and events going on in the school throughout the academic year. Additionally, parents receive emails, newsletters and messages through the week and when necessary.
