Kindergarten

Internships in Primary School and Secondary School

An internship at the German School Nairobi offers you the chance to put what you are learning in your studies into practice while experiencing everyday life at a German international school. Alongside your work in the classroom, there is also time to explore Kenya in your free time.

Requirements

Applications are open to students with a pedagogical background, usually from the third semester onwards or with a comparable level of training. Applying earlier is not recommended, as prior knowledge is required.

Interns take part in at least 23 teaching hours per week. How many of these hours you teach independently is agreed individually with the subject teacher. 23 Unterrichtsstunden pro Woche am Unterricht teil. Wie viele Stunden davon eigenständig unterrichtet werden, wird individuell mit der jeweiligen Fachlehrkraft abgesprochen.

Fluent German skills and very good English skills are required.

Duration and periods

Most internships last around three to six monthsPlacements usually take place during the following periods:

  • Mid August to end of January
  • Early February to mid July

Allocation of internship places

Per period, the school usually offers 

two internship places in the Primary School 

two internship places in the Secondary School

Students of social work, social pedagogy, or administration are also welcome to apply.

General conditions

The internship is unpaid. The school can offer organisational support but no financial assistance.

Free accommodation in the intern house on the school campus may be available, including for Kenyan interns.

The internship is not part of a formal training programme. At the end of the internship, we issue a certificate confirming the duration and activities.

Please include the following documents with your application:

  • CV in table form with a photo
  • Motivation letter stating your degree programme, subjects, and preferred period
  • Proof of enrolment
  • Proof of your current stage of studies, for example from the third semester onwards or comparable
  • Copy of your ID card or passport

Practical information

Successful applicants organise their own travel preparations. This includes adequate health, accident, and liability insurance for the stay abroad, as well as timely health precautions and recommended vaccinations.

Kindergarten Internship at the German School Nairobi

An internship in the Kindergarten at the Deutsche Schule Nairobi offers the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the work of a German international school and to build practical experience in an international setting.

Requirements

Applicants should be enrolled in a pedagogical training programme, for example training as an early childhood educator, or already have relevant prior experience in the field of education. Very good German skills and good English skills are required.

General conditions

The internship is unpaid. The school can provide organisational support, for example guidance to help you settle in, but no financial assistance. Support with accommodation or living expenses is not possible.

The internship is not part of a formal training programme. After completion, the Deutsche Schule Nairobi issues a certificate confirming the duration and activities of the internship.
